A human cage-fighting operation in Gary, Indiana, running out of a former steel mill where the cage is assembled from salvaged rebar and the floor is industrial grating that leaves pattern bruises on anyone who gets taken down. Crucible Cage is the lowest tier of fighting in the GLMZ — no sanctioning, no weight classes, no medical staff, and no rules beyond "don't kill anyone on purpose." Fighters are mostly Shelf laborers working off debts, young idiots proving something to themselves, and the occasional professional slumming for quick cash under a fake name.

The mill's former foreman, a massive Samoan-Ukrainian woman named Leilani Kovalenko, runs the operation with an iron fist and genuine concern for the fighters' wellbeing that exists in permanent tension with the fact that she profits from their violence. She keeps a first aid kit that could stock a small clinic, she stops fights when they go too far (which is far), and she maintains a blacklist of fighters too dangerous or too damaged to compete. The crowd is rough, the betting is cash-only, and the building is a tetanus risk on a structural level, but Crucible Cage fills every fight night because people need somewhere to put their anger.
