The Belly
A venue built inside a partially intact Iowan Behemoth torso that was disabled and abandoned in a field south of Manitowoc during the 2178 incursions. The Behemoth — designated IB-0447 by the military, called "Old Jonas" by locals — was hit by a concentrated barrage that destroyed its locomotion systems but left the central processing cavity and upper torso largely intact. The machine is dead, its autonomous systems long since drained, but the interior spaces are massive: the main cavity, once housing the Behemoth's processing core, is now a two-story venue accessible through a hole cut in the machine's flank. The walls are the Behemoth's internal structure — conduits, armor plating, mechanical joints frozen in place — and the whole space has an organic quality, like being inside the ribcage of a metal giant.
The Belly serves drinks, hosts live music, and operates as a general social gathering space for the Manitowoc area, but its real draw is the experience of being inside a dead Behemoth. The machine's dormant systems create a low-frequency electromagnetic field that patrons report feeling as a vibration in their teeth, and on cold nights, the Behemoth's thermal mass keeps the interior warmer than the outside air, as if the machine is still generating heat from some residual process nobody has identified. The owner, a Manitowoc farmer named Ekon Svensson-Achebe, discovered the interior was habitable while sheltering from a storm and decided the world needed a bar inside a dead robot. He was correct.
