A music venue built inside a converted water tower in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where the cylindrical tank's natural acoustics produce a reverb that audio engineers have described as "cathedral crossed with submarine." The tower was decommissioned in the 2170s when Oshkosh's water infrastructure was consolidated, and a Senegalese-Norwegian sound designer named Amadou Larsen bought it for the price of the back taxes. He gutted the interior, installed a stage at the bottom of the tank, and arranged seating in ascending rings up the curved wall. Capacity is 200, and every seat has a different sonic experience because of how the sound bounces off the steel.

The Cistern books acts that can exploit the space: solo performers, acoustic ensembles, experimental sound artists, and the occasional neural-feed musician who uses the tank's resonance as a physical instrument. There's no amplification system — the tower IS the amplification system. Amadou has a strict no-BCI-recording policy enforced by signal jammers embedded in the walls, which means the only way to hear a Cistern performance is to be there. Bootleg recordings exist but they're all terrible, which is exactly the point.
