Washburn Commons
Washburn Commons is what happens when a corporation buys a park and decides it should earn its keep. The original Washington Park — one of Olmsted and Vaux's masterworks, a designed landscape meant to give the South Side room to breathe — was seized by Helix BioSystems during the Tier Consolidation as part of a land-for-debt swap with the municipal government. Helix fenced it, gated it, and converted it into a Tier 3-and-above bioremediation preserve. The grass is real. The trees are real. The air is filtered through canopy-mounted atmospheric processors that make the park a literal bubble of clean oxygen in the middle of a district that can't afford to breathe. The people who live around it can see the green through the fencing. They cannot enter without a valid tier credential above 2.
