Kang-Petrov Arms KPS-9 'Rattler'
The KPS-9 Rattler is the cheapest submachine gun on GLMZ. At Φ400, it costs less than many handguns, and Kang-Petrov manufactures it with that price point as the primary design constraint. The weapon is a simple blowback-operated SMG chambered in 9mm brass-cased, with a stamped steel receiver, polymer grip, and a 32-round stick magazine. There is no BCI link, no electronic sight, no onboard computer. The sights are molded into the receiver.
Reliability is inconsistent. The Rattler functions adequately when clean and properly lubricated, but the loose tolerances that enable mass production also admit contamination. In dusty or wet conditions, malfunctions increase noticeably. The weapon's accuracy is sufficient for engagements inside 50 meters, but beyond that distance the combination of fixed sights and a short barrel makes consistent hits challenging.
None of this matters to the Rattler's customers. The KPS-9 exists because violence is not exclusively a privilege of the well-funded. For Φ400, a person in a Tier 1 zone gets a weapon that fires 30 rounds of commonly available ammunition. It is not a good weapon. It is an available weapon. In a world where availability often matters more than quality, the Rattler sells millions.

| tactical use | The Rattler has no tactical sophistication. It is a volume-of-fire weapon used at close range where accuracy is determined by proximity rather than skill. In desperate defense scenarios, the KPS-9 provides suppressive capability that a handgun cannot match. Its sole tactical advantage is ubiquity — ammunition and spare parts are available everywhere, and the weapon's simplicity means anyone can learn to operate it in minutes. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| cultural context | The Rattler is the weapon of the desperate, the impoverished, and the unprepared. Finding a KPS-9 in someone's possession tells you nothing about their affiliations — it tells you about their budget. The weapon appears in crime scenes, defensive actions, and everywhere that violence occurs among people who cannot afford better. Kang-Petrov has been criticized for manufacturing a weapon this cheap, but the alternative is a monopoly on violence by those who can afford premium arms. | ||||||||||||||||||||

| image prompt | Product photography of the Kang-Petrov KPS-9 Rattler submachine gun: stamped steel receiver with crude molded iron sights, 10cm barrel, flat black polymer grip, lying on a worn metal surface under dramatic side-lighting. Visible maker's stamps and wear patterns. Gritty, industrial neo-noir urban aesthetic. Deep shadows and metallic highlights revealing tool marks and stamping artifacts. No chrome, no polish—raw manufacturing. 3/4 angle showing the receiver profile and stick magazine. Moody, desaturated color palette with gunmetal gray steel and matte black polymer. --ar 3:2 --v 6 | ||||||||||||||||||||
