Ouroboros UW-5 'Harpoon'
A pneumatic speargun designed for underwater combat in GLMZ's flooded infrastructure, submerged transit tunnels, and coastal industrial zones. The UW-5 fires a 30-centimeter steel spear using compressed air at velocities effective to 15 meters underwater — dramatically reduced from surface weapon ranges due to water resistance, but sufficient for the close-quarters engagements that underwater environments demand. The spear is tethered to the weapon by a retractable monofilament line, allowing recovery and reload.

Ouroboros developed the UW-5 because GLMZ has an underwater problem. Decades of subsidence, flooding, and rising water tables have created an extensive network of partially or fully submerged spaces beneath the city — old transit tunnels, basement levels, industrial chambers, and infrastructure corridors that are now accessible only by diving. These spaces are used for smuggling, storage, clandestine manufacturing, and hiding. Conventional firearms are useless underwater; the UW-5 fills the gap.

The weapon's most common deployment is during drainage operations, where security teams must clear flooded spaces that may contain hostile occupants. The UW-5's monofilament tether serves double duty — the spear can be used to anchor to structures for movement in current, and the retraction mechanism provides a crude grappling capability. In the dark, flooded tunnels beneath GLMZ, the UW-5 is the difference between an operator and a drowning victim.

base technologies
  • Pneumatic underwater propulsion
  • Monofilament tether system
  • Corrosion-resistant construction
specificationsprojectile: 30cm steel spear
capacity: 1 spear (tethered)
effective range: 15 meters underwater, 25 meters surface
propulsion: Compressed air, 8 shots per charge
weight: 2.3 kg
length: 650mm
construction: Marine-grade corrosion-resistant alloys
tactical useUnderwater combat, flooded infrastructure clearance, and maritime security operations. Operators engage targets at close range in low-visibility submerged environments. The tethered spear allows retrieval and reload without losing the projectile in dark water.
cultural contextThe UW-5 serves a niche that most GLMZ residents don't think about — the city beneath the water. Divers, smugglers, and infrastructure workers who operate in flooded zones carry the Harpoon as standard equipment, and underwater combat is a specialized skill set that commands premium rates in the freelance market.

story hooks
  • A body has surfaced in a flooded transit tunnel with a UW-5 spear through the chest. The victim was a city infrastructure inspector who was mapping submerged spaces that someone doesn't want mapped. The flooded tunnels contain something worth killing to protect.
  • A team of divers equipped with UW-5s has been hired to clear a flooded basement level that contains sealed containers nobody will describe. The pay is extraordinary. The nondisclosure agreement is more frightening than the weapon.

physical description
visual profileA sleek, purpose-built pneumatic speargun with a compact bullpup-style frame optimized for underwater maneuverability. The silhouette is angular and hydrodynamic—tapered at both ends to minimize water drag. At first glance, it reads as industrial and brutally functional: equal parts tool and weapon, with the aesthetic of deep-sea engineering equipment repurposed for combat.
dimensions650mm overall length, 120mm width at grip, 95mm height at stock. Barrel/chamber assembly extends 280mm forward of grip. Spear projectile: 30cm (300mm).
weight descriptionHefty but balanced—2.3 kg distributed to favor the grip hand. Feels substantial underwater where buoyancy partially offsets weight; in air, it has a reassuring heft that communicates precision engineering rather than crude power.
primary materialMarine-grade corrosion-resistant alloy frame (likely titanium-aluminum composite or specialized stainless steel variant) with reinforced pressure housing for the pneumatic charge system. Spear is solid steel, hardened for penetration.
finishSatin-matte metallic gray with subtle salt-etching visible on exposed surfaces—evidence of underwater service. Pressure chamber shows micro-oxidation patterns. Practical, not polished; this is a working weapon that accepts its operational environment.
color schemeGunmetal gray primary with deep blue-black anodized accents on the grip frame and trigger guard. Monofilament spool housing is dark teal—a practical color choice that improves visibility in murky water without sacrificing tactical aesthetics.
grip textureTextured polymer with embedded microchannels for water drainage. Feels slightly tacky when dry, grips firmly when wet. Cross-hatched pattern provides purchase even with gloved hands or augmented digits.
distinctive features
  • Prominent cylindrical pneumatic pressure chamber dominating the upper receiver—ribbed for heat dissipation and structural reinforcement
  • Top-mounted monofilament spool with tension readout dial (green-yellow-red indicator)
  • Integrated depth gauge reading to 300 meters, flush-mounted above trigger group
  • Side-mounted manual pump valve for charge replenishment with pressure gauge
  • Recessed spear loading slot with spring-loaded retention collar
  • Luminescent charging indicator strip running along the left side of the pressure chamber (glows faint blue when charged)
  • Attachment points (reinforced cleats) on top and side rails for carabiner/anchor line rigging
  • Small copper grounding strip along the barrel for saltwater conductivity management
manufacturer markingsSerpentine Data Centers' stylized ouroboros logo (serpent eating its tail) stamped into the pressure chamber, 8mm height. Serial plate recessed into grip frame with alphanumeric code. 'OUROBOROS UW-5' etched along the barrel in clean sans-serif. Certification stamps (GLMZ Maritime Authority, Tier 2 licensing) on the left side of the stock.
condition typicalWell-maintained but operationally worn. No rust (material prevents it), but surface shows minor dings from underwater impacts. Monofilament spool shows signs of frequent use. Charging valve exhibits salt-white residue around seals. Overall impression: reliable, regularly serviced, ready for immediate deployment.
image promptProfessional product photography of the Ouroboros UW-5 underwater speargun displayed on a dark matte gunmetal surface with water droplets and condensation. Angled three-quarter view, weapon held steady in a gloved tactical hand (augmented chrome knuckles visible). Dramatic side-lighting from cool blue-white source reveals the satin finish of the pressure chamber and the subtle salt-etching on the alloy frame. Monofilament spool housing catches light, showing deep teal accents. Background is dark, slightly out-of-focus industrial underwater concrete. Foreground shows the 30cm tethered steel spear positioned parallel to the weapon, monofilament line visible between them. Lighting emphasizes the pneumatic chamber ribbing and the glowing blue charge indicator. Industrial neo-noir aesthetic with emphasis on functionality and marine-grade engineering. Neon blue ambient light reflects off wet surfaces. Shot composition suggests both precision tool and lethal instrument. --ar 3:2 --v 6
