Tessera Networked SMG TNSM-3 'Chorus'
The TNSM-3 Chorus is the SMG variant of Tessera's networked weapons platform, sharing the TAR-12 Consensus's distributed targeting AI in a compact package designed for close-quarters team operations. When multiple Chorus units are networked, the weapons coordinate fire distribution, prevent friendly-fire incidents, and assign sectors of fire automatically based on each operator's position and facing.

Chambered in 4.6mm caseless with a 30-round magazine, the Chorus provides adequate individual firepower. Its true capability emerges in teams of three or more, where the networking creates a coordinated defense that covers all angles simultaneously. The BCI link provides each operator with their teammates' positions, assigned sectors, and real-time ammunition counts, enabling tactical coordination without verbal communication.

The TNSM-3 costs Φ5,000 per unit, and Tessera sells them in team packs of four with a discount to Φ18,000. The networking protocol is encrypted and self-organizing — units automatically detect and connect to other Chorus weapons within 200 meters. This simplicity of deployment makes the system practical for ad-hoc team formation, though the networking also means stolen Chorus units could potentially join an enemy's network if not properly locked.

tactical useThe Chorus transforms a group of individual operators into a coordinated fire team without requiring extensive training or established communication procedures. The automated sector assignment and fire deconfliction prevent the most common team-fire errors — double-targeting and friendly fire — while the ammunition count sharing ensures teams know when a member needs to reload. In close-quarters clearing operations, the Chorus network allows silent coordination that verbal communication cannot match.
cultural contextThe Chorus represents Tessera's belief that networking improves everything, applied to close-quarters combat. The weapon creates instant team cohesion among operators who may have never worked together — a valuable capability in the freelancer market where scratch teams are assembled for single operations. The flip side is dependency: Chorus operators who rely on the network struggle when forced to fight independently.

story hooks
  • A stolen Chorus unit auto-connected to a friendly team's network during a clearing operation, feeding the thief real-time tactical data on the team's positions and ammunition status.
  • A freelance team's Chorus network was compromised by a signals intelligence unit that injected false position data, causing the team to fire into each other's assigned sectors.

  • 4.6mm caseless standard

physical description
visual profileA sleek, modular SMG with a distinctly networked aesthetic—sharp angles and protruding data nodes suggest constant connectivity. The profile is compact and angular rather than organic, with visible mesh networking ports along the receiver. Appears purpose-built for teams rather than solo operators.
dimensions38cm overall length, 22cm barrel, 7cm width at receiver, 4cm depth. Magazine well sits forward of the trigger guard.
weight descriptionBalanced and responsive at 1.9kg—light enough for sustained CQC operations but substantial enough to feel controllable during high cyclic rates. Notably front-weighted due to the barrel assembly.
primary materialReinforced polymer composite frame with 7075 aluminum receiver. Modular rail system in hardened steel. Internal components designed for quick-swap modularity.
finishMatte gunmetal gray with anthracite accents. Surfaces treated with anti-reflective coating to minimize signature. Networking ports finished in brushed titanium.
color schemeGunmetal gray primary with matte black grip panels and accent edging. Subtle phosphorescent green status indicators at key networking nodes.
grip textureTextured polymer grip with aggressive diamond checkering. Slightly contoured for natural pointer-finger indexing. Cool to the touch, intentionally non-slip in both dry and wet conditions.
distinctive features
  • Three visible data-mesh networking nodes along the left receiver rail—small titanium ports with LED status indicators (green when networked, amber when searching, red when locked)
  • Integrated BCI link antenna port recessed into the charging handle—minimal profile to prevent snagging
  • Magazine well features translucent witness ports with round-count markings visible to both operator and networked team members
  • Modular barrel assembly with quick-detent locking mechanism for field maintenance and variant swaps
  • Heat sink fins along the top receiver to manage thermal signature from sustained 850 rpm fire
  • Ambidextrous safety lever with triangular detents—audible click when switching fire modes (safe/semi/burst/full)
manufacturer markingsTESSERA logo stamped into the left receiver rail in brushed aluminum. Serial plate mounted on the right side of the frame with QR code for network authentication. 'CHORUS TNSM-3' designation laser-etched in small print along the magazine well. Caliber marking (4.6mm CASELESS) on the barrel collar.
condition typicalField-maintained and well-cared-for in team environments. Minor wear on the grip panels from glove use. Networking ports show signs of dust covers being frequently removed and replaced. Polymer may exhibit fine scratches from urban CQC operations, but internal components remain clean due to modular design facilitating regular maintenance.
