Tessera Plasma Channeler PC-9 'Stormcaller'
A directed energy weapon that ionizes a path through the air and then discharges a high-voltage current along the ionized channel — essentially creating a guided lightning bolt. The PC-9 fires a UV laser pulse that strips electrons from air molecules along its path, creating a conductive plasma channel. A fraction of a second later, the weapon discharges its capacitor bank through this channel, delivering a 50,000-volt electrical arc to the target.

Tessera developed the Stormcaller for anti-electronics warfare — the electrical discharge overloads and destroys circuit boards, power systems, and electronic components. Against personnel, the effect is equivalent to a lightning strike. Against vehicles, the discharge can fry every electronic system simultaneously, turning a functioning machine into an inert metal shell.

The weapon produces a distinctive crack-boom signature — the UV laser pulse followed by the thunderclap of electrical discharge. In GLMZ's enclosed spaces, the sound is physically painful and the flash can cause temporary blindness.

base technologies
  • Laser-induced plasma channel generation
  • High-voltage directed electrical discharge
  • Atmospheric ionization targeting
specificationscaliber: N/A — laser-guided electrical discharge
effective_range: 10-200 meters (dependent on atmospheric conditions)
rate_of_fire: 1 discharge per 10 seconds (capacitor recharge)
capacity: 6 discharges per power cell
weight: 11.4 kg
power_source: Dual capacitor bank with rapid-charge power cell
tactical useThe Stormcaller is deployed for anti-electronics warfare, vehicle disabling, and engagement of targets in conductive environments. The weapon's electrical discharge follows the path of least resistance after reaching the target, meaning it can chain through multiple electronic systems and even jump between closely-spaced targets. In wet environments — rain, standing water, flooded corridors — the Stormcaller's effectiveness is dramatically amplified, with the discharge spreading through the water to affect a wide area.
cultural contextThe PC-9 has earned a mythological reputation in GLMZ, where residents describe its use as 'being struck by lightning indoors.' The weapon's visual effect — a brilliant electrical arc from weapon to target — is one of the most dramatic sights in modern combat, and combat footage of Stormcaller engagements has become a genre of underground entertainment media. Tessera has attempted to suppress these recordings without success.

story hooks
  • A Stormcaller was discharged in a Tier 2 market during a rainstorm. The electrical discharge spread through rainwater and standing puddles, killing the target and twelve bystanders through electrocution. The operator claims the weapon's performance specifications did not account for the environmental conditions.
  • Someone has modified a PC-9 to sustain its plasma channel for multiple seconds rather than a single discharge — creating a continuous lightning bolt that can be swept across targets like a beam weapon. The modification is unstable and has killed two operators, but the third survived and is offering demonstrations.
ammunition type
  • Laser-guided electrical discharge
image promptProduct photography of the Tessera Plasma Channeler PC-9 'Stormcaller' plasma rifle positioned diagonally across a matte black aircraft-grade aluminum surface. Dramatic side-lighting from upper left casts sharp shadows, highlighting the angular titanium frame and dual capacitor housings with their deep violet translucent glow. The ionization vents at the barrel tip catch light like teeth. Slight electrical arc effect visible between the charging terminals. Gloved hand in reinforced tactical glove (dark gray synthetic leather) gripping the rubberized charging handle, fingers resting on the trigger guard. Background is dark gunmetal with subtle circuit-board pattern overlay suggesting near-future megacity setting. The weapon shows field-wear — micro-fractures in composite, scorched heat-sink fins, tarnished chrome details. Cool color temperature with accent lighting emphasizing the violet capacitor glow and micro-arcs. Shot from 45-degree angle showing full profile and dimensional depth. Professional product catalog aesthetic with industrial neo-noir design. --ar 3:2 --v 6

physical description
visual profileA sleek, angular rifle with a pronounced forward-swept design. The weapon has an aggressive, lightning-bolt aesthetic — sharp edges and tapered lines that suggest electrical energy. The barrel assembly dominates the profile, appearing almost like a tuning fork with dual ionization vents. Overall impression is cutting-edge and dangerous, with an almost organic, predatory quality.
dimensions127 cm length overall, 34 cm width at widest point (capacitor banks), 16 cm height. Barrel assembly extends 52 cm from receiver. Charging grip rises 8 cm above the rail system.
weight descriptionSubstantial and front-heavy at 11.4 kg — the capacitor bank assembly pulls the balance forward. Feels muscular and deliberate in hand, requiring confident two-handed stance. The weight distribution encourages aggressive posture rather than precision hold.
primary materialTitanium-reinforced carbon composite frame with exposed capacitor housings. Barrel ionization assembly is anodized aluminum with quartz lens elements.
finishMatte gunmetal gray with brushed titanium accents. The dual capacitor banks feature a slightly translucent deep violet tint, suggesting charged electrical potential. Scorch marks and micro-fractures common on well-used examples.
color schemeGunmetal gray primary, deep violet capacitor casings, chrome charging terminals. Occasional burnt sienna heat-stress discoloration on the ionization vents.
grip textureTextured rubberized polymer with embedded micro-ridges for wet-hand grip. The charging handle is bare brushed steel with slight electrical burn marks. Ergonomic curves suggest corpo-level refinement despite the weapon's Tier 5 accessibility.
distinctive features
  • Dual ionization vents positioned like a predator's snarling teeth at barrel terminus
  • Violet-glowing capacitor charge indicators visible through translucent side panels
  • Micro-fracture web visible in composite frame from electrical stress
  • Chrome charging terminals that arc faintly during recharge cycle
  • Scorched carbon deposits around the muzzle assembly from atmospheric ionization
  • Heat-sink fins along the barrel in a spiral pattern
  • Targeting reticle projected via small LED assembly mounted on dorsal rail
manufacturer markingsTESSERA logo stamped in chrome on left capacitor housing. 'PC-9 STORMCALLER' engraved in italics above the charging mechanism. Serial number etched on the titanium frame just behind the trigger guard. Military authorization hologram seal (faded/scratched on field units) near the power cell socket.
condition typicalField-worn with visible scorch marks, composite micro-fractures from electrical cycling stress, and burn-tarnished chrome. The weapon operates reliably despite cosmetic degradation. Dust and residue accumulates in the ionization vents. Charging terminals show blue-white oxidation from repeated arcing.
