Crucible Industries developed the platform for anti-materiel operations where targets include equipment caches, vehicle fuel systems, and fortified positions with combustible components. Each round carries a 0.3-gram thermite payload in the projectile tip that activates on deformation.

The rifle itself is a conventional gas-operated platform built on the proven FR-9 receiver with modifications to the barrel lining and chamber to resist the thermal signature of the incendiary ammunition. A BCI-linked thermal scope provides targeting data overlaid with flammability analysis of the target environment — the system identifies combustible materials and predicts fire spread patterns to maximize incendiary effect.

The Ashfall is devastating against unarmored targets and soft vehicles but less effective against modern armor, which is designed to resist thermal penetration. Its real value is psychological — a single thermite round igniting inside a defensive position creates panic disproportionate to the actual damage.
