A dual-purpose support weapon that alternates between kinetic suppression fire and a projected kinetic barrier. The Phalanx uses a single electromagnetic accelerator that can either fire 5mm tungsten rounds at 600 RPM or redirect its magnetic field to generate a localized shield that deflects incoming small-arms fire.

Vanta Ordnance designed the Centurion for small-unit operations where a team cannot carry both a support weapon and a shield generator. The VO-8 allows a single operator to switch between offensive and defensive roles in under half a second, providing suppressive fire during movement and shield coverage during pauses.

The trade-off is that the weapon cannot fire and shield simultaneously — the electromagnetic system does one or the other. Operators describe using the Centurion as a rhythm: fire, shield, advance, fire, shield, advance. Skilled operators develop an intuitive sense for when to switch modes, creating a pulsing offensive/defensive cadence that is difficult for opponents to exploit.
