The ionization process transforms the reagent from an inert transport medium into a highly reactive dissolution agent that aggressively attacks both organic polymers and biological lipid membranes. The spray itself is nearly invisible — a faint iridescent shimmer in direct light — making it exceptionally difficult to detect in dimly lit environments until contact is made.

What makes the EDS-2 distinctively dangerous is the selectivity of its ionization profile. By adjusting the voltage gradient on the ionization grid via a thumb dial on the grip, operators can tune the reagent's reactivity toward organic tissue, synthetic materials, or a balanced blend of both. At maximum organic setting, it strips exposed skin and mucous membranes within seconds; at maximum synthetic setting, it dissolves polymer armor coatings, adhesives, and certain cybernetic housing materials. The mixed setting is considered the most tactically versatile but produces a caustic byproduct fog that requires the operator to wear sealed respiratory protection.

Zheng-Dao Bioelectric developed the EDS-2 ostensibly as an industrial decontamination tool for hazardous polymer environments, and it remains technically legal as such in several GLMZ jurisdictions — a loophole that has made it a favorite of operators who need plausible deniability on weapon checks. The weapon is recognizable by its wide conical nozzle, dual reagent tanks (one base liquid, one ionization catalyst), and the faint electrical crackling audible during active discharge.
