Helix Biosystems developed the DIF-2 originally as a dermatological instrument for accelerated wound debridement in field surgery — removing necrotic tissue via targeted induction rather than physical scraping. The weaponized variant was a modification that required minimal engineering effort: simply increasing field intensity and broadening the emission cone from surgical precision to area coverage.
