The vapor itself is inert on dispersal; ignition is triggered by a secondary piezoelectric pulse emitted from the casing 1.4 seconds after rupture, which causes rapid oxidative chain-reaction combustion throughout the suspended aerosol. The result is a brief, intensely hot flash-burn event that consumes oxygen in the area and reaches temperatures exceeding 900°C for approximately 0.6 seconds before dissipating entirely. Unlike conventional incendiaries, it leaves no persistent flame, no structural scorch, and almost no thermal residue.

What makes the CVDC-5 distinctive is the near-invisibility of its effect profile. Security sensors calibrated for conventional explosive signatures — overpressure, optical flash, shrapnel impact — frequently fail to register the detonation until personnel casualties are already logged. The vapor is odorless and colorless. To an unaugmented observer, the charge simply sits on a surface and then, without warning, everyone in the room is dead. Augmented users with thermal overlays can sometimes detect the dispersal cloud if they know what to look for, but the 1.4-second ignition window leaves almost no reaction time.
