The NeuralMesh NMP-6 is the network protocol that enables Brain-Computer Interface devices to communicate with each other and with digital infrastructure. Unlike conventional wireless networking, which transmits data through radio frequency signals to base stations, NeuralMesh uses each BCI as both a client and a relay node, creating a mesh network where data hops between nearby BCIs on its way to its destination. Every BCI-equipped person is simultaneously a network user and a piece of network infrastructure.

The protocol operates in a dedicated frequency band allocated by the GLMZ Communications Authority, using ultra-wideband transmission at power levels low enough to be safe for continuous cranial proximity. Data throughput per hop is approximately 10 gigabits per second, with typical latency of 0.3 milliseconds per hop. In a dense urban environment where BCI-equipped individuals are rarely more than 5 meters apart, the mesh provides coverage that is effectively ubiquitous — there is no location in GLMZ where a BCI-equipped person is out of range of the network, because there is no location where there are no BCI-equipped people nearby.

Axiom Systems designed NeuralMesh as the default networking layer for their BCI hardware, and the protocol has become the de facto standard as Axiom's BCIs dominate the market. The protocol includes built-in encryption, identity verification, and traffic routing, but Axiom maintains administrative access to the routing layer — they can observe traffic patterns (though not content, due to encryption), prioritize or deprioritize specific data types, and in extreme cases, isolate individual BCIs from the mesh entirely. This administrative capability is documented in the BCI's terms of service, which approximately 0.01% of users have read.
