The Antimatter Micro-Cell AMC-4 is a battery-sized power source that stores energy in the form of magnetically suspended antihydrogen atoms and releases it through controlled matter-antimatter annihilation. Each AMC-4 unit is a cylinder approximately 10 centimeters long and 3 centimeters in diameter — roughly the size of a conventional battery — containing approximately 0.5 micrograms of antihydrogen suspended in a Penning trap magnetic field. This minuscule quantity of antimatter, when annihilated with normal matter, releases approximately 45 megajoules of energy — enough to power a personal BCI for six months, a personal shield unit for three hours of continuous operation, or a directed-energy weapon for approximately 200 shots.

The AMC-4's magnetic suspension system is its most critical component. The antihydrogen must never contact the cell's physical walls — any contact produces uncontrolled annihilation that releases the cell's entire energy content instantaneously, equivalent to approximately 10 kilograms of TNT. The Penning trap maintains suspension through a combination of static electric fields and a uniform magnetic field generated by superconducting coils cooled by a miniaturized cryogenic system. The cell's failure modes are extensively documented and uniformly catastrophic — if the cryogenic system fails, if the magnetic field fluctuates, if the cell is physically damaged, the result is an explosion.

Crucible manufactures AMC-4 cells at a single facility — the Antimatter Production Complex in low Earth orbit, where antihydrogen is produced using particle accelerators and stored in magnetic traps for transport to the surface via the orbital elevator. Production is extremely limited: approximately 2,000 cells per year, each costing 12,000 Φ. The cells are used primarily in military applications, high-end personal electronics, and specialized scientific instruments where the energy density of antimatter — a million times greater than chemical batteries — justifies the cost and risk.
