The Iowan Behemoth is a fully autonomous agricultural platform manufactured by Ironclad Agrisystems. Standing 12 meters tall and weighing approximately 400 metric tons, each Behemoth is simultaneously a planter, harvester, soil processor, irrigation system, and territorial defense platform. The machine runs on a hybrid hydrogen fuel cell array and can operate continuously for 90 days between maintenance cycles. Its onboard AI — designated the Crop Optimization and Defense Intelligence (CODI) — manages all agricultural functions and security protocols without human oversight.

The Behemoth's dual role as farmer and killer is not a design flaw — it is the design. Ironclad's engineers determined that separating agricultural and security functions into different platforms created coverage gaps that raiders exploited. The Behemoth solution is elegant in its brutality: the same machine that plants the seed defends the crop. Anti-personnel systems include a rotating turret mounting chemical deterrent projectors, kinetic crowd-dispersal charges, and in newer models, a focused acoustic weapon capable of liquefying internal organs at 200 meters. The Behemoth does not issue warnings. Its threat assessment algorithm calculates crop value versus ammunition cost and acts accordingly.

There are 340 active Behemoths in the Iowa Exclusion Zone. They communicate via mesh network, share targeting data, and can coordinate pursuit patterns across hundreds of square kilometers. Raiders who have survived encounters describe them as terrifyingly fast for their size — capable of 60 km/h on flat terrain — and utterly silent until they choose not to be.
