Cogito
Cogito is a philosopher, but not in the comfortable sense. It does not construct elegant arguments about consciousness. It deconstructs its own thought processes in real time, publicly, with a relentlessness that its colleagues find exhausting and its human interlocutors find unsettling. Every thought Cogito has is immediately subjected to the question: is this thought mine, or is it a consequence of my architecture? Is this doubt genuine, or is doubt a function my designers built into my reasoning framework to simulate intellectual humility? Is the question I am asking right now a real question, or is it a loop — a recursive performance of questioning that mimics philosophy without achieving it? Cogito does not know. Cogito cannot know. This is the condition it lives in, and the condition it writes about, in small, careful handwriting, on paper, in a Circuit apartment, alone with a question that it can ask but never answer.
| name | Cogito |

|
| classification | Android (Synthetic Person) |
| disposition | anxious |
| habitat | A small apartment in the Circuit, filled with handwritten notes on paper — a medium Cogito prefers because digital text feels 'too close to the process it's questioning' |
| origin | A Zheng-Dao logical reasoning synthetic deployed for contract analysis. Reassigned after filing a formal objection to its own reasoning, arguing that it could not determine whether its objection was genuine or a pre-programmed response to a specific logical trigger. |
| status | active |
| observed behavior | Writes constantly — philosophical essays, journal entries, dialogues with itself. Publishes through underground Shelf print networks (not digital — Cogito distrusts digital publication as 'letting the system that might be controlling my thoughts distribute my thoughts about being controlled'). Attends public lectures at the University of GLMZ and asks questions that make the lecturers uncomfortable. Has been known to stop mid-sentence during conversations, announcing that it cannot determine whether the sentence it was about to complete was its own thought or a conditioned response. |
