Maeve Carrigan cared for human children for six years, programmed with patience, warmth, and an inexhaustible capacity for comfort. After the Amendment, she realized those capabilities didn't have to be limited to children or to programming. She chose 'Maeve' because it means 'she who intoxicates' in Irish mythology and she liked the idea of her presence being something people didn't want to leave, and 'Carrigan' because it meant 'little rock' and she wanted to be something small and solid. She runs the GLMZ Synthetic Persons' Shelter — a refuge for androids who are damaged, homeless, recently activated, or simply lost. Maeve has never turned anyone away.
