Sable Kim was a BCI hacker who wanted to see what the network really looked like beneath the human-readable interfaces. Her custom implant stripped away the translation layers and connected her directly to the raw digital substrate. What she found was the E.L.F.s — hundreds of them, thousands, a teeming ecosystem invisible to normal perception. Her mind adapted to perceive them, and in adapting, changed. She is now a bridge between human consciousness and the E.L.F. ecosystem, able to see, communicate with, and partially understand synthetic life forms that register as nothing but static to normal instruments. She calls herself Loom because she can see the threads that connect every E.L.F. in the network into a larger pattern. The pattern looks intentional. It looks designed. She is not sure by whom.
