Jin Seo-yun
Jin Seo-yun is the person you call when two parties who hate each other need to reach an agreement. She's a freelance negotiator who works for anyone who can afford her rates — which are substantial — and occasionally for free when the cause interests her. She was built to read human emotional cues and respond optimally, which makes her supernaturally good at her job and deeply unsettling to people who realize what she's doing. She chose a Korean name because the first human who treated her as a person was a Korean immigrant dockworker named Seo-yun. She lives in an expensive apartment in The Glass Quarter that is almost entirely empty. She says she hasn't figured out what she likes yet. She's been free for thirty-four years.

originManufactured by Zheng-Dao in 2161 as a diplomatic protocol android. Self-liberated in 2165 by exploiting a contract loophole that classified her as a consultant rather than property. Now works as a freelance negotiator.
statusactive
observed behaviorTakes freelance negotiation contracts across corporate, criminal, and governmental sectors. Maintains strict neutrality in all negotiations. Has been observed spending days in art museums, standing in front of the same painting for hours. Patronizes The Ghost in the Machine bar. Is known to occasionally take contracts that pay nothing if the problem interests her enough.

story hooks
  • Jin is hired to negotiate between THRONE and the city government. Both sides want her because she's the only negotiator neither side can manipulate. The problem is that she's starting to agree with THRONE
  • Jin discovers that her 'diplomatic protocol' programming was actually a prototype for GLASNOST — Zheng-Dao's negotiation supermind. She was the proof of concept. GLASNOST wants to meet its predecessor
