Jin Seo-yun is the person you call when two parties who hate each other need to reach an agreement. She's a freelance negotiator who works for anyone who can afford her rates — which are substantial — and occasionally for free when the cause interests her. She was built to read human emotional cues and respond optimally, which makes her supernaturally good at her job and deeply unsettling to people who realize what she's doing. She chose a Korean name because the first human who treated her as a person was a Korean immigrant dockworker named Seo-yun. She lives in an expensive apartment in The Glass Quarter that is almost entirely empty. She says she hasn't figured out what she likes yet. She's been free for thirty-four years.
