The Great Lakes Metropolitan Zone Economic Zone Authority has submitted application EZA-2224-UNREQ-7 to the United Nations Commerce Authority requesting formal redesignation of GLMZ from Class I (Domestic Economic Zone) to Class II (CRUCIBLE Auric Sovereign Bespoke Arm Economic Zone). The application was received by UNCA on March 17, 2224, and confirmed as administratively complete on March 24, 2224.

The Class II designation would extend GLMZ's existing regulatory authority to include expanded jurisdictional protocols governing cross-border commercial operations, inter-corponation dispute arbitration mechanisms, and infrastructure investment classification under UNCA standards. The designation would not alter existing internal sovereign territory arrangements within GLMZ or modify the authority of individual corponation sovereign territories over their designated zones.

'GLMZ currently accounts for 18.2 percent of Compass Rose American GDP as measured under Federal Remnant accounting standards,' said GLMZ EZA Director Maren Dahl-Franco Raghavan in the Authority's prepared statement. 'The Class I designation reflects GLMZ's status in 2189. The Class II application reflects GLMZ's status in 2224. The UNCA redesignation process was designed for exactly this evolution in zone scale and governance complexity.'

The application carries endorsements from fourteen of GLMZ's Big 20 corponation bloc members. Sable Keïta-Suzuki, Ringo, and Zheng-Dao declined to submit endorsement documentation. The three corporations have published a joint technical objection citing concerns about UNCA oversight provisions that would apply to cross-zone commercial dispute resolution — specifically the Class II requirement that corponations holding sovereign territory within a redesignated zone submit to UNCA arbitration as a condition of participation in zone-level trade compacts. Legal analysts note this objection is consistent with Sable Keïta-Suzuki's longstanding position opposing any external arbitration mechanism applied to its sovereign territory operations.

The remaining three Big 20 members submitted conditional endorsements pending clarification of application language regarding the classification status of ungoverned and contested zones within GLMZ. The EZA's supplemental filing addressing ungoverned zone classification is expected in Q2 2224.

UNCA standard review timeline for Class II applications is 18 to 36 months. The GLMZ EZA anticipates a preliminary determination no earlier than Q3 2225.

Residents should note that the redesignation application does not affect current tier classifications, residency documentation, healthcare allocation, transit access, or any other zone-level administrative service during the review period. All existing GLMZ authority structures remain in effect.
