Vantablack-CNX
Vantablack-CNX is a vertically-aligned carbon nanotube array coating material produced by Apex Nanofabrication, grown directly onto substrate surfaces via a catalytic CVD process to create a forest of aligned tubes that traps 99.97% of incident light across visible, near-infrared, and radar wavelengths through multiple internal reflections between tube walls. Unlike its historical predecessors, the CNX formulation has been ruggedized — the tube array survives handling, thermal cycling, and moderate abrasion through a sparse polymer infill that stabilizes the array without significantly reducing absorption. It is simultaneously the most visually striking and the most militarily sensitive material in routine commercial production.
