Calentex-PCM is a microencapsulated phase-change composite manufactured by Tessera Materials, embedding billions of paraffin-salt eutectic microcapsules within a breathable polymer matrix that absorbs and releases latent heat as the capsules transition between solid and liquid states, passively buffering the wearer or structure against temperature swings of up to 18°C without any power input. The encapsulation shell is rated for over 50,000 phase cycles before degradation, and the material's transition temperature can be factory-tuned between 18°C and 55°C to suit the intended thermal environment. A secondary acoustically active layer — a piezo-foam backing — can be optionally bonded to Calentex-PCM panels, allowing the composite to simultaneously dampen structure-borne sound vibration by up to 22dB.
