Induces growth of osteoderms — bony plates beneath the skin — modeled on armadillo dermal armor. The plates form a flexible mosaic covering the torso, upper arms, and thighs. Each plate is approximately 2–4 cm in diameter, hexagonal, and articulated by connective tissue that allows near-normal range of motion. The plates are effective against bladed weapons and provide limited ballistic resistance — they'll stop a knife and reduce the penetration of low-velocity projectiles, but they won't stop a rifle round. The modification adds 8–15 kg of body mass and is visibly apparent — the skin over plated areas has a subtly textured, segmented appearance. Crucible Genomics offers a cosmetic overlay option that makes the plates visible through the skin as a deliberate aesthetic choice. Full plating takes a year to develop completely and continues to strengthen for up to three years.
