Rewrites the melanocyte stem cells in hair follicles to produce chromatophore-like pigment cells that shift color in response to electrical signals from a subdermal control node behind the ear. The user can set their hair to any color or combination of colors, change it on a whim, or set it to cycle. The most popular mode in the Shelf is 'mood drift' — the hair shifts color slowly based on emotional state, similar to chameleon skin but slower and more gradient. Helix Biosystems' premium version allows per-strand control for complex patterns. Street versions typically offer a rotating palette of 8–12 colors with visible transition artifacts. Approximately forty percent of GLMZ's population under age 40 has some form of hair chromatophore modification. It is the city's most popular geneware installation after iris resequencing.
