The Garden of Wires is less a religion and more a spiritual practice community — roughly 6,000 people who gather in small groups called 'plots' to practice a form of contemplative technology maintenance they call 'tending.' The practice is simple: members gather, bring broken technology — BCIs, augments, personal devices, infrastructure components — and repair them together in meditative silence, treating the act of repair as a form of prayer.

The Garden emerged organically in the Shelf around 2185, where people who couldn't afford professional augmentation maintenance began gathering to help each other with repairs. Someone — nobody remembers who — began treating these repair circles with ritualistic reverence, and the practice took on spiritual dimensions that nobody planned but everyone felt. The theology, such as it is, holds that everything is connected, that broken connections produce suffering, and that the act of repairing a connection — any connection, technological or human — is the most sacred work a person can do.

The Garden has no clergy, no scripture, no doctrine beyond the practice itself. Plots meet weekly, work in silence or with quiet music, and share a meal afterward. The practical result is that the Garden provides free augmentation maintenance and technology repair to Shelf residents who would otherwise go without — making it both a spiritual community and one of the most effective mutual aid organizations in GLMZ's lower tiers.
