The Green Meridian Collective is an environmental movement of approximately 8,000 members that campaigns for ecological restoration in a city that has largely given up on the natural world. In GLMZ, where the sea walls hold back rising oceans, the air is filtered through corporate systems, and the last uncontaminated soil is three hundred kilometers away, environmentalism is not a lifestyle choice — it's an argument about survival.

The GMC's work includes urban farming projects in the Shelf (growing food in contaminated soil using bioengineered plants), water quality monitoring (testing the output of GLMZ's desalination plants for contaminants the corponations don't report), air quality advocacy (campaigning for the release of atmospheric monitoring data that Axiom classifies as proprietary), and ecological restoration pilot projects in Old Harbor's derelict industrial zones. They also maintain the only public seed bank in GLMZ — a repository of plant genetic material that the corponations consider valueless and the GMC considers priceless.

The Collective is not taken seriously by GLMZ's power structures, which consider environmentalism a quaint irrelevance in a city that has already engineered past most environmental constraints. The GMC argues that this engineering is fragile, temporary, and hiding ecological debts that will come due within a generation. Nobody in power is listening. Yet.
