The Neural Liberation Front is a radical activist group of approximately 500 members that campaigns against what they call 'neural colonialism' — the corporate practice of using BCI technology to collect, analyze, and monetize human thought patterns, emotional responses, and cognitive data. In GLMZ, where BCIs are ubiquitous and corporate firmware monitors everything from attention patterns to emotional states, the NLF argues that humanity's last private space — the mind itself — has been colonized for profit.

The NLF's activism ranges from public protest to direct action. On the legal end, they file lawsuits challenging corporate neural data collection, publish reports on the extent of BCI surveillance, and advocate for 'neural privacy' legislation. On the illegal end, they develop and distribute 'liberation firmware' — unauthorized BCI modifications that block corporate data collection while maintaining the BCI's functionality. This firmware is popular, effective, and a felony to install under GLMZ's augmentation licensing laws.

The NLF is small but technically sophisticated. Its members include BCI engineers, neuroscientists, and privacy advocates who understand the technology well enough to fight it. They are hunted by corporate security (their liberation firmware costs the BCI industry an estimated Φ200 million annually in lost data revenue) and beloved by citizens who install the firmware and experience, for the first time, the sensation of thinking without being watched.
