The Skinline Codec is Ringo Corponation's answer to the problem of communication in fully jammed or surveilled environments: if radio signals can be intercepted and blocked, transmit through something that isn't radio. The Thread uses the body's own bioelectric field as a carrier medium, encoding encrypted data as micro-variations in the skin-surface electrical potential of a user and transmitting it to another Thread user through direct physical contact — a handshake, a touch on the shoulder, a brush of hands. The contact window required is as brief as 0.3 seconds, enough for a full compressed message packet to transfer completely undetected by any external monitoring system.
