Arcturus Defense Solutions Null-Seam Signal Shroud
The Null-Seam Signal Shroud is a portable Faraday enclosure designed to completely isolate any electronic device placed inside it from all external electromagnetic signals — incoming and outgoing. Constructed from twelve interlocking layers of Arcturus's proprietary Ferrolattice fabric, the shroud achieves attenuation exceeding 120dB across frequencies from 100Hz to 40GHz, effectively rendering any device inside it electronically dead to the outside world. It folds to the size of a large envelope, deploys in seconds, and is rated for field use in wet, dusty, and high-vibration environments.

What distinguishes the Null-Seam from cheaper signal-blocking pouches is the seam construction: conventional Faraday bags fail at their closures, where imperfect contact between layers creates signal leakage paths. Arcturus solved this with a magnetic compression seal that creates continuous conductive contact around the entire closure perimeter, eliminating the seam gap entirely. The result is a blocking performance that meets military-grade standards for device isolation, used by Arcturus's own field intelligence units for transporting sensitive hardware through hostile surveillance environments.

The shroud is also used offensively: any device placed inside it is immediately cut off from remote wipe commands, tracking signals, and tamper-detection pings. This makes it indispensable for anyone who has acquired hardware they need to examine without triggering its security protocols — or for anyone carrying a device they do not want broadcasting their location.

tactical useOperatives use the Null-Seam Shroud to transport acquired hardware — stolen comm devices, lifted data cores, confiscated implants — without triggering remote security responses. A device inside the shroud cannot receive a remote wipe command, cannot ping its owner's network, and cannot transmit location data. It is also used to carry a team's own devices through areas with aggressive signal-harvesting infrastructure, preventing passive logging of device identifiers. Some teams use it as a pre-mission discipline tool: all personal devices go in the shroud before an operation begins, eliminating the risk of accidental transmission.
cultural contextThe Null-Seam Shroud has become something of a ritual object in professional circles. Pulling one out before a meeting signals that you are serious about operational security — a nonverbal statement that what happens in this room stays in this room. Some fixers require everyone at a negotiation to bag their devices as a condition of the meeting. In the Undercroft, cheaper knockoffs with degraded attenuation performance are sold under various names; savvy buyers test them with a basic RF meter before trusting them with anything important. The genuine Arcturus model is identifiable by a small embossed serial number on the interior lining — knockoffs rarely bother to replicate it.

story hooks
  • A character recovers a Null-Seam Shroud with a device still inside — the device is still live, meaning someone sealed it and then never came back to open it.
  • A meeting is called in which all parties must bag their devices — but someone in the room is transmitting anyway, from hardware that shouldn't exist.
  • The black market is suddenly flooded with counterfeit Null-Seam Shrouds that perform perfectly on an RF meter but contain a passive logging layer that records everything placed inside them.
  • A character discovers their Arcturus-issue Shroud has a serial number that traces back to a unit reported destroyed in a classified operation two years ago.
  • A corporate client insists that a delivery be transported inside a Null-Seam Shroud for the entire transit — no exceptions, no checking the contents. The payout is enormous. The reason is never explained.

physical description
visual profileA flat, envelope-like enclosure that unfolds into a rigid box. When folded, it resembles a high-end document sleeve with subtle metallic sheen. Deployed, it's a rectangular Faraday cage with clean, engineered lines and minimal ornamentation—purely functional industrial design.
dimensionsFolded: 210mm × 150mm × 8mm (letter-sized envelope). Deployed: 380mm × 280mm interior, ~60mm tall when fully erected.
weight description340g—light enough for field carry in a tactical vest pocket or equipment bag, but substantial enough to feel precision-engineered. Handheld or bag-mounted.
primary materialFerrolattice composite (proprietary 12-layer laminate with conductive mesh interlayers). Exterior fabric backing appears matte graphite-gray with subtle electromagnetic shielding texture visible under magnification.
finishMatte non-reflective outer surface to avoid detection; inner walls show fine metallic mesh weave. Magnetic compression rail runs the perimeter with subtle brushed-steel finish.
color schemeCharcoal gray outer fabric with gunmetal-gray magnetic compression seals. Arcturus branding in flat white and corporate teal. Interior lining is conductive copper-tone mesh barely visible through translucent reinforcement strips.
interface elementsMagnetic closure points (8–10 evenly spaced) along the top seam create the null-seam compression lock. Subtle alignment etches guide proper deployment. Thin status indicator strip (LEDs, optional add-on) shows magnetic seal integrity when engaged. Carry loop of braided aramid webbing stitched into one corner.
distinctive features
  • Magnetic compression seals with precise contact points—no visible gaps at closure
  • Translucent corner reinforcements showing internal mesh weave without compromising shielding
  • Asymmetrical fold pattern allows single-handed deployment
  • Faint Faraday cage grid pattern embossed into outer fabric for authenticity
  • Military-spec Arcturus logo and 'DEFENSE SOLUTIONS' text in flat white sans-serif
  • IP67 rating badge and attenuation specs (120dB+) printed in small type near closure
manufacturer markingsArcturus Defense Solutions logo (angular geometric design) embossed/printed on upper left. Regulatory stamps: 'MILITARY GRADE SIGNAL ISOLATION | 120dB+ ATTENUATION | 100Hz–40GHz' in small sans-serif. Manufacturing date code and batch number in discrete location. Optional tamper-evident hologram near closure.
condition typicalPristine condition shows as a compact, tool-like object—no scratches or wear visible on field-grade examples. Used examples show minor creasing from deployment cycles, faded branding, and dust residue in creases. Sometimes deployed on workbenches with devices partially inserted, magnetic seals partially engaged for testing.
image promptProduct photography of a partially deployed Faraday enclosure on a brushed-steel workbench, dramatic overhead and side lighting casting sharp shadows. The shroud is mid-deployment showing the magnetic compression seals engaging; a encrypted data drive sits nearby as if about to be inserted. Cinematic neo-noir lighting with teal and amber accents hitting the metallic compression rail. Shallow depth of field. Moody, industrial aesthetic. --ar 3:2 --v 6
