The album features thirty-one contributors across sixteen tracks, ranging from teenage apprentices at the Meridian fabrication yards to retired logistics workers in their seventies. The music is rooted in what the liner notes call 'the actual sound of where we live': work songs built on Yoruba rhythmic patterns, lullabies that blend Finnish runic singing with Brazilian embolada vocal technique, drinking songs with lyrical structures borrowed from Mongolian urtiin duu, and quiet hymns that belong to no tradition anyone can name precisely.
