In 2197, a geological survey team mapping the Canadian border zone along the Lake Huron shoreline discovered a series of cylindrical metal pipes embedded in a sedimentary rock formation. The formation dates to the Devonian period — approximately 380 million years ago. The pipes are metallic, seamless, and show no evidence of welding, casting, or any manufacturing process known to human metallurgy. They simply exist within the rock, as if they grew there.

The pipes range from 2 centimeters to 40 centimeters in diameter. They extend vertically into the earth to a depth that ground-penetrating radar cannot fully resolve — at minimum 200 meters, possibly much deeper. Several pipes curve horizontally and, based on sonar mapping, emerge from the lakebed approximately 3 kilometers offshore. They emit trace radiation — not dangerous, but measurable, and in a decay profile that matches no known isotope.

The rock formation has been core-sampled and independently dated by four laboratories. The results are consistent: the rock formed around the pipes. The pipes were there first. This places their origin at a minimum of 380 million years ago, predating not only metallurgy but multicellular life on land. The alloy composition does not match any naturally occurring mineral. It does not match any manufactured alloy. It is, by every analytical measure available, artificial and older than vertebrate evolution.

The survey team has been instructed to classify the site and restrict access.
