Sterling-Nakamura published their "Quanta Is Freedom" editorial two weeks ago. I want to talk about the freedom they didn't mention. The freedom you lost. Timestamped. Geolocated. Associated with your unique wallet signature. Fed into Sterling-Nakamura's behavioral prediction models. Correlated with every other transaction you've ever made. Analyzed for patterns. Sold to corponations as "consumer insight data." Used to predict what you'll do next, what you'll buy next, what you'll need next, and — most profitably — what you're afraid of, because fear is the most reliable predictor of spending behavior, and Sterling-Nakamura has turned your fear into their revenue stream.

They tell you this is for your safety. They tell you transaction transparency prevents crime. And it does — it prevents small crime, petty crime, the crimes of desperation committed by people with nothing. It does not prevent the crimes of the powerful, because the powerful have Q-ghost services that scrub their transaction trails, and Q-wash services that anonymize their purchases, and legal teams that seal their financial records under corponation sovereignty protections. The rich have financial privacy. They purchase it the same way they purchase everything else: with enough Quanta that the rules stop applying. You, the noodle-buying, air-fee-paying, balance-checking person reading this on your BCI — you do not have financial privacy. You cannot afford it. Your every purchase is naked. Your every transaction is a confession. And Sterling-Nakamura is the priest, the judge, and the merchant, all in one. Quanta is not freedom. Quanta is the most sophisticated surveillance system in human history, and the brilliant part — the part that would make every dictator in history weep with envy — is that you carry it voluntarily. You use it eagerly. You cannot imagine life without it. The chain is invisible. The cage has no walls. And you call it freedom because they told you to.
