Abstract: This paper documents forty-one verified cases of physical injury transference between individuals connected via BCI neural-link — a phenomenon we have designated the "Sympathy Effect." In each case, when one member of a neural-linked pair sustains a physical injury, the other member develops corresponding physical symptoms at the site of the injury, despite being at a different location and having no knowledge of the injury at the time of onset. These are not psychosomatic responses. The symptoms include bruising, swelling, tissue inflammation, and in three cases, bone microfractures. The affected tissue shows the same histological profile as impact trauma. The recipient was not impacted.

Case 7 is representative. Patient A, a thirty-four-year-old dockworker, sustained a fractured left radius in a loading accident at 14:22 on June 3rd, 2199. Patient B, Patient A's neural-link partner, was at home 6 kilometers away at the time of the accident. At 14:22, Patient B experienced sudden, acute pain in her left forearm. She presented at St. Ignatius emergency at 14:51. Imaging revealed a bone microfracture at the left radius, at the same anatomical location as Patient A's fracture. Patient B had not been informed of Patient A's accident. She had not fallen, struck her arm, or sustained any physical trauma. Her arm broke because her partner's arm broke.

The neural link is a standard BCI feature that allows consensual sharing of sensory data between paired users. It is not designed to transmit physical states. It transmits data — encoded sensory information. Pain signals transmitted via neural link are experienced as data: the recipient perceives the pain as a notification, not as a physical sensation. The Sympathy Effect is not a data transmission. It is something moving through the link that is not data, affecting the body of the recipient in ways that data cannot.

We have found no mechanism. BCI manufacturers insist that the hardware is incapable of producing physical effects in linked partners. They are correct — the hardware is incapable. Whatever is causing the Sympathy Effect is using the link as a pathway but is not constrained by the link's technical specifications. It is as if the neural connection between two people has become something more than a data channel. Something that carries not just information about the body, but the body itself. We are advising neural-link users to be aware of the phenomenon. We are not advising them to disconnect, because in the three cases where linked pairs disconnected after experiencing the Sympathy Effect, the transference continued. The link opened the door. Removing the link does not close it.
