Let us be very clear about what we are alleging: at least two corponations operating in GLMZ — Helix Biosystems and Lazarus Pharmaceuticals — are conducting unauthorized biological research in the Underworld, and the organisms they have created or modified have escaped containment and are now living, breeding, and hunting in the tunnel network beneath our city. This is not paranoia. This is documented corporate behavior.
Helix Biosystems holds 14 patents on organisms designed for "subterranean environmental remediation" — creatures engineered to eat toxic waste, process contaminated water, and break down industrial chemicals in enclosed spaces. These patents describe organisms with precisely the characteristics reported by Underworld eyewitnesses: pale coloration from lack of UV exposure, enhanced chemical sensitivity, multi-limbed locomotion for navigating irregular terrain, and — crucially — the ability to metabolize a wide range of organic compounds including, theoretically, human tissue. Helix claims these organisms have never been deployed outside laboratory conditions. Helix also claimed, for three years, that their GeneWright product had no mutagenic side effects, until internal documents proved otherwise.
Lazarus Pharmaceuticals' involvement is more speculative but supported by circumstantial evidence. Lazarus holds exclusive pharmaceutical distribution rights in the Underworld through a subsidiary called DeepMed Solutions. DeepMed clinics operate on levels B5 through B20, providing medical services to Underworld residents at subsidized rates. The question is: why? Lazarus is not a charity. Subsidized medical care in the Underworld generates no profit. Unless the clinics serve a dual purpose — data collection. Every patient treated at a DeepMed clinic provides biological samples as standard intake procedure. If Lazarus is conducting mutagenic research, a population already exposed to the Underworld's chemical environment would be an ideal study group.
We have obtained partial internal communications from a Helix Biosystems employee who claims that "Project TAXONOMY" — a classified research initiative listed in Helix's internal project database with no public description — involves "field testing of engineered organisms in uncontrolled deep-level environments." The employee was unable to provide complete documentation before losing network access. They have not been heard from since.
The creatures people are seeing in the tunnels are not ghosts, not demons, not hallucinations. They are products. Someone made them. Someone released them. And nobody is looking for them because the people being hunted are Underworld residents whose disappearances are logged as "voluntary relocation" by a municipal government that doesn't extend its jurisdiction past B30.
