The Waukegan Salvage Yard occupies a 4-hectare site on the northern outskirts of the Chicago ruins. Since 2192, the site has exhibited a persistent gravitational anomaly that we have verified through sixty-one independent measurements: plumb lines within the yard do not hang vertical. They deflect approximately 2.3 degrees toward the center of the site — a point occupied by a rusted shipping container that the yard's owner uses for tool storage.

This deflection is consistent with a gravitational mass of approximately 10^12 kilograms concentrated at the center point. For reference, this is the mass of a small mountain. The shipping container weighs approximately 3,000 kilograms. The ground beneath it, sampled by core drilling to a depth of 50 meters, is standard alluvial substrate with no anomalous density.

The effects are observable. Balls placed on flat surfaces within the yard roll toward the center. Water in level containers shows a meniscus tilted toward the center. Workers in the yard report a persistent sense of walking slightly uphill when moving away from the center and slightly downhill when approaching. The yard's owner, who has operated the business for fifteen years, describes it as "the lean" and has adjusted to it. He stores heavy equipment on the perimeter because it tends to drift.

Every instrument we bring to the site agrees with the subjective experience: something at the center of the Waukegan Salvage Yard exerts gravitational pull that should not exist. The shipping container has been opened, emptied, and inspected. It contains nothing unusual. The ground has been surveyed to 50 meters. Nothing. The anomaly persists regardless of what is or is not at the center.
