I was doing my regular sweep — checking for CorpSec frequency-hopping near my broadcast band — when I caught a signal on 92.7. Strong signal. Clean. Closer than any broadcast I've picked up that wasn't from inside the city. I tuned in. What I heard was a voice. One voice, speaking continuously, without pause for breath or interruption. The language was not English. It was not Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi, Yoruba, Japanese, or any of the other seventeen languages I can identify by ear. I recorded nineteen minutes of the broadcast before the signal cut out — not faded, cut, like someone threw a switch.

I sent the recording to four people. A linguistics professor at GLMZ Tech said it exhibits "structural properties consistent with natural language" but does not match any language in her database of over 7,000 living and dead languages. A signal analyst said the transmission characteristics are "inconsistent with any known transmitter type" — the signal has no carrier wave artifacts, no modulation signature, no fingerprint. It is as if the sound simply appeared on the frequency without being placed there by equipment. A cryptographer said the speech patterns show "high information density with low repetition," suggesting the speaker is communicating novel content, not reciting or looping. An AI language model returned "language not recognized, confidence: zero" and then, unprompted, added a note that said "this is old." The AI should not be capable of generating qualitative assessments like "old." Its developer could not explain the output.

I have monitored 92.7 FM every night since October 11th. The broadcast has returned three times, always between 02:00 and 04:00, always the same voice, always in the same unidentifiable language. The content appears to be continuous — each broadcast picks up where the last one ended, as if the speaker has been talking the entire time and we only hear it when the frequency opens. Someone, or something, is broadcasting on a dead frequency in a language that does not exist, and it has been talking for longer than we have been listening.
