When an unconscious patient arrives at an emergency department with life-threatening injuries, the standard of care may require cybernetic intervention — a replacement organ, a vascular bypass, a skeletal reinforcement to prevent spinal collapse. All of these require SNT bonding.

This protocol satisfies no one. The physicians feel they are violating autonomy. The patients feel they were changed without permission. The corponations feel they are absorbing costs for hardware that patients may reject. The ethicists feel the protocol is a compromise that compromises everything.
