The Quanta currency did not emerge from a single moment of invention. It was the culmination of three decades of monetary crisis, technological breakthrough, and corporate ambition that converged in the 2160s to produce the conditions under which a single global currency became not merely desirable but inevitable. Understanding Quanta's founding requires understanding the collapse of the systems it replaced.

By 2140, the global monetary landscape was in ruins. The US dollar — the world's reserve currency for nearly two centuries — had lost its anchor when the United States federal government contracted to the Eastern Seaboard corridor following the territorial fragmentation of the 2090s. A currency backed by 12% of its former territory and 8% of its former GDP was not a reserve currency. It was a regional scrip. The euro had disintegrated with the European Union in the 2110s. The Chinese yuan, the Indian rupee, the Japanese yen — all had experienced catastrophic inflation as their issuing governments lost control of their monetary infrastructure to the growing corponations. By 2150, there were over 400 functioning currencies worldwide, most of them regional, many of them corporate-issued, none of them trusted beyond their borders. International trade — the backbone of civilization — was drowning in exchange rate chaos.

Sterling-Nakamura, then a mid-tier financial services firm specializing in quantum computing applications, saw the opportunity. In 2157, CEO Elara Nakamura published a white paper titled "Currency as Physics: A Proposal for Quantum-Verified Money." The paper argued that the trust problem — the fundamental weakness of every currency system — could be solved by anchoring money not to political promises or mathematical consensus but to the laws of quantum mechanics. Money verified by physics could not be counterfeited, could not be inflated by political manipulation, and could not be devalued by the collapse of its issuing authority. The paper was dismissed as theoretical fantasy by mainstream economists. It was read with great interest by the eleven other firms that would become the QFIC.

The QFIC was formally established in 2162, with Sterling-Nakamura as permanent chair and eleven other corponations as founding members. Over the next six years, the consortium invested approximately Φ-equivalent 2.4 trillion in building the Entanglement Distribution Network — the 8.4 million quantum nodes that would verify every transaction on the new currency. The first Quanta transaction — Φ1.00, transferred between two EDN nodes in Singapore — occurred on June 14, 2168. Within five years, Quanta had replaced national currencies in 31 countries. Within ten years, it was the sole legal currency in all QFIC-administered territories. Within twenty years, it was the only currency that mattered anywhere on Earth. The remaining national currencies persist as curiosities, accepted nowhere that matters, held by no one who has a choice. Quanta won because it was better. It won because it was backed by physics. And it won because the twelve most powerful economic entities on Earth decided it would win, and there was no one left with the power to disagree.
