### Chicago → Milwaukee (~90 miles)
**Verdict: Almost certain to merge.**

The corridor along I-94 and Lake Michigan is already heavily suburban — Kenosha and Racine are functionally bedroom communities straddling both metro areas. The gap between Chicago's northern suburbs and Milwaukee's southern suburbs is maybe 15-20 miles of semi-rural land. At current sprawl rates, that gap fills well before 2175. The resulting megalopolis absorbs Gary, Hammond, Kenosha, Racine, and Waukegan into one continuous lakeshore urban band stretching nearly 100 miles — a Midwest coastal strip, a freshwater seaboard city.

**Climate wild card:** As the Sun Belt heats up and water becomes scarce, the Great Lakes region becomes one of the most desirable places on Earth to live. Migration pressure alone could densify this corridor faster than any organic sprawl model predicts.

### Columbus, Ohio — Midwest Interior

The geography between Midwest cities is genuinely vast. Columbus to Cleveland is 140 miles, Columbus to Cincinnati is 100 miles. The Northeast megalopolis was formed by the gradual coalescence of large, independent metropolitan areas whose outer fringes eventually merged into an extensive urbanized region stretching 800 kilometers. That process is ongoing and accelerating.

NYC's metro area already effectively consumes most of New Jersey, large chunks of Connecticut, and reaches deep into the Hudson Valley. By 2200, continuous development could plausibly run from NYC all the way up the Hudson to Albany, and across Long Island completely. Add the already-merging **Bos-Wash corridor** — Boston through Providence, Hartford, New Haven, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington — and you're looking at a single urban band containing roughly 60-70 million people where "New York State" as a discrete geography barely means anything anymore.

A character's relationship to the sprawl (born in it, displaced by it, employed by its infrastructure, excluded from it) directly shapes their facet weights.

The Great Lakes corridor is particularly relevant: freshwater scarcity makes it a migration magnet, which means competing corponations fighting over the most valuable urban real estate on the continent.
