Sections over major joints and the skull use flexible articulated tile arrays to preserve movement while maintaining protection; the system is rated to stop most handgun rounds outright and significantly reduce penetration from rifle calibers. Bastion is restricted to active and veteran military, licensed contractors, and certain law enforcement units — civilian possession is a serious offense. On the black market it commands extraordinary prices, and the visible chrome plating sections make it nearly impossible to conceal, meaning users are making a deliberate statement about their threat level. Former soldiers who kept their Bastion implants after discharge exist in a legal grey zone that the GMPD actively monitors; some operate as high-end security contractors, others as heavily-armored criminals.
