The Limbic Gradient Modulator is a deep-brain augmentation implanted through stereotactic neurosurgery, consisting of a primary processing node seated at the anterior cingulate cortex with four secondary electrode arrays extending into the limbic system — specifically targeting the amygdala, hippocampus, nucleus accumbens, and hypothalamus. The device continuously maps the user's emotional state through real-time electrochemical monitoring of these regions and allows the user to make deliberate, calibrated adjustments to their affective experience through an interface accessible via a subcutaneous pressure pad behind the ear. Zheng-Dao developed the Modulator out of their neurological therapeutics division, initially as a treatment for severe affective disorders in patients for whom pharmaceutical approaches had failed.
