Reed Villalobos
Reed Villalobos the lens. Where other PIs chase data streams or neural traces, Bijou captures light on silver halide crystals and reads the truth in the chemistry. Her methods are considered antiquated by everyone who hasn't needed them, and revelatory by everyone who has.

Her analog approach wasn't a philosophical choice — it was pragmatic. Twenty years ago, she discovered that digital surveillance countermeasures, which are ubiquitous in GLMZ, are calibrated exclusively to detect and defeat electronic sensors. A chemical-process camera doesn't emit electromagnetic signatures, doesn't connect to any network, and produces images that can't be remotely deleted or altered. In a world where digital evidence is routinely questioned, her chemical photographs carry a weight that pixel-based images can't match.

She operates from a converted warehouse space in Old Harbor that functions simultaneously as her office, her darkroom, and her archive. The archive is her masterpiece — decades of photographs of GLMZ's streets, buildings, and people, organized with a librarian's precision. She has been contacted by historians, journalists, and investigators who need visual evidence of the past, and her archive has proven or disproven alibis, established timelines, and documented changes to the cityscape that no digital record captured. She is, without fully intending it, becoming one of the city's most important unofficial historians.

story hooks
  • Reviewing old photographs, Bijou notices a face appearing in the background of images taken across different districts and years — someone has been present at dozens of crime scenes and nobody noticed until now
  • A client wants her to photograph something in the Underbelly that hasn't been documented since the city was built — the conditions will destroy her equipment but the subject could change everything
  • Her archive is targeted for destruction by someone whose presence in decades of photographs constitutes evidence of crimes spanning twenty years

physical description
heritageComplex pan-global ancestry: South Asian (48.6%), Hispanic/Latin American (23.1%), East Asian (16.2%), Sub-Saharan African (12.1%). The blend creates warm, rich undertones with subtle depth—high cheekbones and defined structure from South Asian heritage layered with warmth from African and Latin American ancestry, East Asian refinement in the eye shape. Unmistakably a product of the Ubiquitous Diaspora.
height cm168
weight kg62
buildLean and wiry, with the slightly hunched posture of someone who spends hours bent over light tables and chemical trays. Economical in movement, no wasted motion.
hair colorNatural dark brown with silver threading at the temples and crown
hair stylePulled back in a practical low bun, often escaping into loose strands during work
hair lengthMedium (shoulder-length when loose)
eye colorDark brown with subtle amber undertones in certain light
skin toneWarm golden-bronze—a rich synthesis of South Asian depth, Latin American warmth, East Asian luminosity, and African richness creating layered golden undertones. The complexion carries warmth across all regions, with a slight luminosity beneath the matte surface of decades of darkroom exposure.
complexionFine-lined face marked by years of chemical exposure; faint creases around the eyes from squinting at negatives and enlargements. Bone structure reflects diverse ancestry—high, defined cheekbones from South Asian heritage blended with subtle fullness at the lower face from Latin American ancestry, refined jawline with East Asian refinement softened by African heritage warmth. Skin has a slightly matte quality from darkroom work. Sparse freckles across the bridge of nose and cheekbones, more pronounced where sunlight occasionally reaches.
distinguishing marks
  • Chemical burn scars on the dorsal surface of both hands—pale, slightly raised patches where developer and fixer splashed decades ago, now integrated into her work-worn appearance
  • A thin scar along the left temple (hairline) from a case in 2216 that went sideways, nearly invisible unless hair is swept back
  • Permanent staining under the fingernails—silver nitrate deposits that have resisted years of scrubbing, creating a faint grey crescent beneath each nail
visible augmentationsNone visible. Her work is entirely analog; no neural interfaces, no retinal displays, no chrome. This absence is itself conspicuous in the GLMZ.
posture movementMoves with deliberate precision—each gesture purposeful, nothing hurried. Stands slightly forward-leaning, as if always about to examine something closer. Her hands are almost always in motion or positioned for work. She makes direct eye contact when listening, a habit built from reading faces in her archive.
clothing styleTier 3-4 utilitarian with personal wear. Dark, neutral colors (charcoal, deep grey, black) to minimize stains and blend into the city. Favors a worn canvas photographer's vest with deep pockets holding light meters, film canisters, and red-tinted glasses for darkroom work. White cotton shirts underneath, often with faint chemical stains at the cuffs. Dark jeans, reinforced at the knees and thighs. Scuffed leather boots, broken in over years. No jewelry except a simple silver chain around her neck holding a small old-style key to her archive storage. Wear patterns show someone who works with their hands constantly.
image promptReed Villalobos, a lean 168cm analog photographer with warm golden-bronze skin tone reflecting South Asian, Hispanic, East Asian, and Sub-Saharan African heritage. High defined cheekbones, dark brown eyes with amber undertones, dark hair streaked with silver pulled into a practical bun with loose strands. Fine facial lines from decades of darkroom work, sparse freckles across nose and cheekbones. Pale chemical burn scars visible on both hands, silver nitrate staining under fingernails. Wearing a worn dark canvas photographer's vest over a white cotton shirt with faint chemical stains, dark jeans, scuffed leather boots. Silver chain necklace with small archive key. Stands forward-leaning with purposeful posture, hands positioned for work. GLMZ, GLMZ setting, analog darkroom ambient lighting with cool blue-tinted shadows and warm practical work lights, slightly matte skin quality, no visible augmentations, contemplative mood examining photographic materials. --ar 2:3 --v 6
