The EN-8 was originally designed as an infrastructure maintenance drone — a small, eight-legged platform capable of traversing pipe systems, conduit networks, and ventilation shafts to perform inspection and minor repair tasks in spaces too confined for human workers. Ouroboros Energy deployed thousands of them across GLMZ's power grid infrastructure. Then someone in the defense division realized that a drone designed to navigate inside the walls of buildings could be trivially weaponized.

The combat variant replaces the repair toolkit with a shaped thermite charge capable of cutting through structural steel, a nerve agent dispersal capsule rated for 40 cubic meters of enclosed space, or a simple incendiary package. The unit enters a building through the utility infrastructure — water pipes, electrical conduits, ventilation — navigates to a designated location using its memorized facility map, and detonates. The target never sees it. They may hear faint scratching in the walls in the minutes before detonation. They may not.

Ouroboros officially denies the combat variant exists. Ouroboros unofficially sells them to anyone with Tier 4 clearance and a willingness to sign documentation that contains the phrase 'infrastructure stress testing equipment.' The maintenance variant remains in widespread legitimate use, which means every building in GLMZ already has pathways designed for exactly this type of platform to traverse.
