Ringo AX-12 'Harvester'
The AX-12 is what happens when a corponation decides that subtlety is no longer cost-effective. Standing 3.5 meters tall on eight articulated legs, each tipped with vibro-cutting blades that double as locomotion and close-combat weapons, the Harvester is a walking atrocity designed for open-field suppression of massed infantry and light vehicles. The central thorax houses a rotary autocannon fed from an internal ammunition drum, while four of the eight legs can independently target and engage threats while the remaining four maintain locomotion — the unit literally walks and kills simultaneously without interrupting either function.

Ringo developed the AX-12 for agricultural pacification operations in disputed farming zones outside GLMZ, where land disputes between corporate holdings occasionally escalate into armed conflicts involving hundreds of combatants. The Harvester was designed to end those conflicts quickly and with minimal Ringo personnel risk. One AX-12 can suppress an area the size of a city block. Two can hold a district. The agricultural pacification framing is technically accurate and morally bankrupt — the machine harvests people.

The psychological impact of the AX-12 cannot be overstated. Its movement is deliberately designed to be visible and loud — heavy hydraulic actuators produce a rhythmic thudding that can be heard blocks away, and the unit's height ensures it is visible above most urban structures. Ringo's behavioral engineers explicitly designed the platform as a terror weapon: the AX-12 doesn't need to kill everyone, it needs to make everyone run.

manufacturerParkside Recreation
tier availabilityTier 5
legalityMilitary restricted — Ringo internal deployment only
autonomy levelRemote operated with autonomous threat response
dimensions3.5m standing height, 6m leg span, 2.2m thorax length
weight2,800 kg
power sourceDiesel-electric hybrid, 48-hour operational endurance
locomotionOctopod heavy assault legs, vibro-cutting blade tips
armament
  • Central rotary autocannon (20mm, 600 rpm)
  • 8x vibro-cutting leg blades
  • Thorax-mounted smoke/tear gas dispensers
sensors
  • 360-degree LIDAR
  • Thermal imaging
  • Acoustic gunfire detection
  • Ground-penetrating radar
countermeasuresLeg joints are vulnerable to shaped charges. Diesel fuel supply is flammable if penetrated. Electronic warfare can disrupt remote operator link, forcing unit into defensive autonomous mode which is less tactically effective. Terrain with overhead cover negates height advantage.
known deployments
  • Ringo agricultural zone pacification (multiple incidents, 2180-present)
  • GLMZ perimeter defense demonstrations
  • One confirmed deployment inside city limits during the 2184 Shelf Uprising
story hooks
  • A Harvester has been spotted in the Shelf. Not deployed — parked. Someone drove it there, shut it down, and left. It's sitting in a warehouse like a coiled spring. The neighborhood is terrified. Nobody knows who owns it or when it wakes up.
  • Ringo is field-testing a new AX-12 variant with full autonomy — no remote operator. The test zone is a 'condemned' Shelf district that Ringo claims is evacuated. It isn't.
cultural contextThe Harvester is the automaton that made the phrase 'mechanical nightmare' literal. Survivors of the 2184 Shelf deployment describe the sound of its approach as the worst thing they've ever heard. Anti-Ringo graffiti frequently depicts the AX-12 standing over small human figures.
