The EC-4 is an elderly care automaton disguised as a motorized wheelchair — or perhaps it is a wheelchair that became an automaton. The frame is a heavy-duty mobility platform with powered wheels, integrated lift mechanisms for bed-to-chair transfers, and a pair of articulated arms that can assist with medication management, feeding, and personal hygiene tasks. Lazarus designed the EC-4 to look like medical equipment rather than a robot, because their market research indicated that elderly patients accept a 'smart wheelchair' more readily than an 'autonomous caregiver.'

The EC-4 monitors its occupant's vital signs continuously — heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen, skin temperature — and maintains a rolling 72-hour medical log that it can transmit to healthcare providers on demand. It administers scheduled medications, tracking dosage and timing with mechanical reliability. It cannot be argued with, bribed, or convinced that skipping a dose is acceptable. It will remind its occupant, wait, remind again, wait, and eventually emit an alert to a designated caregiver contact. The occupant cannot override this sequence.

Lazarus markets the EC-4 to families with aging parents who cannot afford full-time human care. The unit costs Φ35,000 — expensive, but roughly four months of human caregiver wages. The unspoken value proposition is guilt management: the EC-4 allows families to feel their aging parent is being cared for without the financial or emotional burden of doing it themselves. Lazarus knows this. Their marketing materials feature adult children looking relieved.
