Arcturus HX-1 'Headsman'

The HX-1 is a bipedal automaton standing exactly human height — 1.8 meters — dressed in a matte-black chassis designed to evoke formal authority. It carries a single weapon: a wrist-mounted high-powered laser cutter capable of severing limbs, penetrating body armor, and — in its designed application — executing individuals designated for termination by corporate authority. The HX-1 walks to its target, identifies them through biometric confirmation, announces the authorization for lethal force, and carries out the sentence.

The HX-1 exists because certain corporate contracts include lethal enforcement clauses — debt obligations, NDA violations, and security breaches that carry capital penalties under corporate law. Previously, these executions required human operators, which introduced complications: hesitation, conscience, witness testimony, PTSD-related liability. The HX-1 eliminates all of these. It does not hesitate. It has no conscience. It generates its own execution record. It cannot develop post-traumatic stress.

Arcturus produces the HX-1 in limited quantities for clients who operate under legal frameworks that permit autonomous lethal enforcement — which, in GLMZ, means most Tier 4 and Tier 5 corponations. The unit's formal appearance and announcement protocol are deliberate: they create a veneer of due process around what is, functionally, a walking death sentence that cannot be appealed, negotiated with, or bribed.

armament
  • Wrist-mounted high-powered laser cutter
  • Biometric confirmation system
sensors
  • Multi-factor biometric identification (facial, gait, BCI, genetic)
  • Vital sign monitoring (confirms completion)
countermeasuresBiometric spoofing can delay but not permanently prevent identification. The unit is armored against small arms. Destroying the biometric system prevents target confirmation, halting the execution protocol. The HX-1 will not engage unconfirmed targets. Fleeing works temporarily — the unit will pursue until its endurance expires or the target is confirmed dead.
known deployments
  • Corporate lethal enforcement operations (Tier 4-5 corponations)
  • Classified — specific deployments not publicly documented
story hooks
  • An HX-1 is walking through the Gray Zone, announcing a name. The name belongs to someone who defaulted on a corporate medical debt. The execution authorization is technically legal. The neighborhood is deciding whether to let the machine pass.
  • An HX-1 has announced the wrong name — a biometric false match has sent it after an innocent person. The real target is watching from a distance. The innocent person has hours to prove their identity before the machine catches up.
cultural contextThe HX-1 is the most overtly dystopian automaton in GLMZ — a machine that walks up to you and kills you because a corporation decided you should die. Its existence is cited as the defining artifact of the corporate sovereignty era: the moment machines replaced executioners.
