The RM-4 is an agricultural automaton designed for crop clearing and land preparation — a tracked platform the size of a small car with forward-mounted rotary cutting blades designed to clear vegetation, small trees, and crop residue at industrial speed. Ringo deployed them across its agricultural holdings for efficient land management. The combat application was discovered accidentally when a unit malfunctioned during a demonstration near a group of observers.

The incident was classified. The capability was not forgotten. Ringo's security division realized that a machine designed to cut through dense vegetation at high speed could, with minimal reprogramming, cut through dense crowds at high speed. The combat variant of the RM-4 replaces the vegetation-optimized cutting blades with hardened steel rotary cutters and adds armored side panels to protect the drive system from small arms fire. It drives into groups of people at 40 km/h and does what it was designed to do to crops.

Ringo has never officially acknowledged the combat variant. Agricultural RM-4 units are in wide, legitimate use. The combat variant is visually indistinguishable until the blade configuration is examined closely — hardened steel cutters where agricultural cutting teeth should be. This dual-use ambiguity is, by this point, a recognized Ringo design philosophy.
