It stands at building entrances, checks identification against authorized access lists, scans for concealed weapons using a millimeter-wave array built into its chest plate, and physically blocks unauthorized persons from entering. Its frame is wide enough to fill a standard doorway.

The GK-8 is unfailingly polite in the way that machines are polite — it uses scripted phrases delivered in a neutral tone that convey courtesy without warmth. 'Good morning. Please present identification.' 'Access authorized. Welcome.' 'Access denied. Please step back.' It does not negotiate. It does not accept explanations for missing credentials.
