A full-length greatcoat in what was once a deep charcoal wool blend, now faded to a complex mix of grays and near-browns from years of acid rain, hand-washing, and sun exposure in the Shelf's filtered, dirty light. The coat falls to mid-calf and was clearly once a higher-tier garment — the construction quality beneath the damage is visible in the structured shoulders, the deep lapels, and the deliberate drape. It has been repaired so extensively that the repairs have become its primary visual identity: the left shoulder sports a large patch in rubberized olive canvas, its edges sealed with silver-gray self-repair tape folded into a clean border; the right sleeve carries three sequential patch repairs in progressively darker fabrics — charcoal, then near-black, then a strip of industrial gray rubber — recording years of acid-sleeve damage. The lining is entirely replaced, now a salvaged thermal blanket material in reflective silver, visible at the hem and collar as a glinting inner layer. The coat is belted with a wide leather strap that has been broken and re-stitched twice, the repair points marked by darker color where the leather was wetted and recured. Beneath the coat, a heavyweight turtleneck in faded ash marled knit sits close to the body, its ribbing loose at the collar from stretching but intact everywhere else. Wide-leg trousers in washed near-black canvas carry side-seam pockets and a reinforced seat. Footwear is a tall boot, resoled so many times the sole is now nearly an inch thick with layered rubber, the upper a patchwork of original leather and replacement panels in synthetic suede, the whole thing treated with a heavy waterproofing compound that gives it a waxy, uneven finish. A wide-brim hat in felted gray, its crown creased and its brim slightly warped but functional, completes the silhouette. The hat carries a single ornament: a small, carefully-polished piece of chrome scrap — possibly from a salvaged aug-component — pinned to the band.
